“Karen has served Ward 6 since 1999. She and her husband, John Elterich, live in the East Grove Street Historic District in Dimmitt’s Grove with their two sons, Jacob and Jonas.

She serves as University Librarian at Illinois Wesleyan University, and holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University and a Ph.D from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she worked for more than 20 years.

Karen’s primary council interests are in neighborhoods, historic preservation, creative planning and budgeting issues.”

 Ward 1

Jamie Mathy

Jamie Mathy began his public service when Mayor Stockton appointed him to Bloomington City Council finish a term for Ward 1 in 2013, and in 2017 Jamie was elected Alderman of Ward 1.
Jamie is originally from Chebanse, IL, the 3rd of 7 children, and moved to Bloomington the first time to attend Illinois State University in 1992, but left after that year to earn more money to continue school.  Jamie enlisted in the Illinois National Guard in 1994 and served until 1998.  He returned to Bloomington in 1995 and earned his Associates from Heartland Community College and returned to ISU as a Business Information Systems major.

In 2005, Jamie and his wife Kelly opened Kelly’s Bakery and Cafe in Downtown Bloomington, and in 2007 Jamie partnered with a high school friend to found Mavidea Technology Group.  In 2014 Jamie left Mavidea to purchase Red Raccoon Games, and in 2017 Kelly purchased the Decorators’ Grocery.

Jamie has been active in many organizations, including serving as the president of both the Bloomington-Normal Sunrise Rotary Club and the Downtown Bloomington Association.  Jamie is also currently on the board of the Community Health Care Clinic and the Bloomington Cultural Commission, and has served on the board for Wishbone Canine Rescue.  Jamie was also a founding member of the BN Tech Town group, and has dedicated countless hours helping many organizations around the community.

Jamie & Kelly live in historic Dimmitt’s Grove with pets Gordon, Thumbalina, and Wobbles.  In his spare time he is an avid reader, plays sand volleyball, and loves to cook.
