January, 2014

The January meeting of Dimmitt’s Grove Neighborhood Association met on Jan. 8 at the home of Herb and Pam Eaton. Fourteen neighbors and a guest were present.

Mike Whelan came to talk to us about Old House Society and what they do and hope to do in our community. They will have an open meeting on Feb. 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Vrooman and neighbors with an interest in old houses are invited. This year’s tour will feature the Normal Ave neighborhood and will be June 14. OHS has grants available for repair or restoration to old houses. Apply at their website for a $500 grant, $250 of that is a credit at the warehouse. They also host a one night tour with wine to raise money for grants. Admission $10 . Call Tara Henry to volunteer to help with tours at tarahenry@gmail.com. http://www.oldhousesociety.org

Last meeting’s minutes are not on the website, so approval was tabled. Mel Hunter reported that we have $4031.94. Plans are being made to switch to Heartland Bank as something is amiss in our account paperwork and it will be easier to move than to fix it, and Heartland is free and handy to our neighborhood.

This year’s winter traveling social will be at three houses!! Join us Mar. 29 at 412 E. Grove, upstairs (Justis & Douglas) at 5:30 for appetizers, move on at 6:30 to 401 E. Grove (Robustelli & Kelahan) for soups and then cross the street to 402 E. Grove for dessert (Krieg & Peters). Bring a dish to share to at least one of these houses.

Karen Schmidt led a discussion of concerns about the new trash carts. The city is working on flexibility issues for multi-family dwellings. Karen is looking for feedback. The city’s ward change proposal will be on the March ballot. Changing from our current ward system to a 5 ward council with 3 at-large members is the proposal. Educate yourself and vote. It will effect us.

Hold these dates. This year’s flea market will be the first Saturday in June. Please plan to participate. This summer’s bake sale will be on July 26. Please plan to bake or work at the booth.

Brad reported a break-in to a garage on Clayton.

The next meeting will be at Lacey Fritsch’s house at 503 E. Olive on Mar. 6 at 7 PM.
